The first Hilleberg tent was sold in 1973. The name of the tent was KEB and it was at two person ridge tent. It was probably the first tent ever produced that offered simultaneous pitching of the inner and outer tent. This is now 35 years ago and today modern development in tents has made this type of tent obsolete and replaced them with tunnel and dome designs.
During these 35 years the Hilleberg company has been leading the development of high quality lightweight tents.
All Hilleberg products are manufactured in Hilleberg owned factories. Each tent is assembled and checked before it is shipped out. Every tent maker guarantees his or her product by labeling it with his/her name. The advantages of producing in own factories are absolute quality control and a continuously learning process. The problem has always been capacity. Not anybody can be learned to produce a Hilleberg tent and as a result of this there has been a shortage of Hilleberg tents in the market.
