| It is always very good when you can have a product for a long time and we especially like it as it creates less waste and is therefore more environmentally friendly. The company was created by Åke Nordin in 1950, when he developed the first wooden frame rucksack. This innovation was a revolutionary product within the outdoor genre as it made it possible for most people to carry much heavier equipment while trekking. Today Fjallraven manufactures a wide outdoor collection consisting of tents, clothes, sleeping bags, rucksacks and other accessories. The company has always been a leading innovator and some of their most recognised developments are listed here: 1950 Fjallraven develops the first wooden framed rucksack 1960 The first aluminium framed rucksack is introduced. 1965 The G-1000® material is invented and their Greenland jacket is launched, which since has become a classic in their collection. 1975 Fjallraven Gyro® frame for rucksacks enables the weight to be balanced on the hips. 1989 Fjallraven Silhuett™ a sleeping bag with extra movement comfort. 2004 DePendler – The world’s first ‘daypack’ bag, with a laptop pocket, that also can be used as a chair. 2008 PAK5 –A lightweight collection with tent, sleeping bag and clothes where the total weight stays below 5 kg!
